Learn these five proven and reliable ways to skyrocket website traffic, avoid marketing pitfalls, and efficiently increase your business ROI.
I’ve seen it far too often: some business owner thinks he can cut corners on his SEO campaign. He thinks he can use keyword spamming or duplicate content –- in 2018! It doesn’t take long before he realizes that he’s about to fail spectacularly, which usually involves getting penalized by Google. Worse, his target audience is driven away.
Some of the savvier internet marketers try clickbait to draw in their audience, but there’s a problem with this -- more and more people are getting wary of that technique.
So how exactly do you draw your audience these days while maintaining good search engine rankings and increasing your ROI in your SEO efforts? I’m about to tell you 5 of the most valuable SEO tips today -- five proven and reliable ways I used to skyrocket my traffic, avoid marketing pitfalls and efficiently increase my ROI.
1. Broken Link Building (BLB)
Broken link building is a little-known secret but has been around for a while now. It is one of the fastest and easiest strategies I used to build links with authority niches that ultimately made a difference in my SEO and sales.
Content owners don’t want broken links in their resources because it provides a lousy user experience. That’s when the broken link building comes into the picture.
So how does broken link building work?
Essentially, you will find content relevant to your niche and search if any of those have broken links in them. Then, you will alert the webmasters about the broken links in their posts while mentioning that you have a great resource that would do just as well as the original link.
It’s a win-win situation for both. You get leads from the link, and the webmasters get to make sure that the resources they’re linking to are working just fine. This kind of lead magnet is something valuable.
Nikolay Stoyanov, a founder of an SEO company, discusses the basics of broken link building and its significance to marketing campaigns. By helping webmasters and readers have quality resources, Stoyanov was able to acquire relevant and contextual links from authority websites.
His BLB campaign strategy took him just one day to get 15 100% white hat links out of the 100 bloggers he contacted. That’s a 15% conversion rate with domain authorities, including MOZ, in only one day.
2. Resource Page Link Building
This is one of the best ways to build links on any website. A resource page is just a webpage where the visitor can check out a list of all links to resources for a certain topic. For example, a website on DIY woodworking projects would likely have a resource page for all woodworking plans and blueprints.
To set it up, I carefully curate my resource pages. The quality of backlinks is paramount, so I ensure that these are tried and true, fresh, and bold content related to my niche.
I followed at least four most effective steps to find excellent resource pages. You can also keep these useful SEO tips in mind when researching and optimizing your content for keywords.
a. Create Impressive Content
The first step is to devote time and effort to create useful and engaging content that will add value to external resources.
A lead magnet is something you can utilize for resource page link building. One good example is an infographic. It is highly shareable due to its informative value.
You can also build leads and links by creating a digital tool, an in-depth branding guide, an e-book, a podcast, or videos. The bottom line is that you need to create high-quality content that other bloggers will be happy to link to.
b. Find Resource Pages
The next process is to find the resource pages in your niche. Resource pages are easy to find when you know how to find them. In this step, all you need to do is a Google search.
Combine your desired keywords with terms like resources and links.
It would look something like this:
- “keyword” + resources
- “keyword” + links
You can also filter your searches based on title and URL to make search results provide only the websites using the specific keyword in their URL or title. Type these on your search bar:
- “keyword” + inurl:links
- “keyword” + intitle: links
- “keyword” + inurl: resources
- “keyword” + intitle: resources
Another filtering method you might also want to try is the combination of .edu results. The search results from this combination will surely provide high-quality links you can trust.
- site:.edu “keyword + links
- site:.edu “keyword + resources
c. Evaluate Websites
Each keyword search could produce tens of thousands of search results. But not all the results will be suitable for your needs or brand. So, the next step you’ll do is to evaluate the sites carefully.
You must focus on the website's page or domain authority to ensure you’re link-building with the highest quality sites. You can either manually evaluate the sites or use free tools.
With manual evaluation, you must analyze the website, check its content, and see if it is up-to-date. See its reviews and ratings and the number of followers and shares. You can also check the social channels to see if the website owners engage with people.
If you’re opting to use the help of digital tools, Moz created a domain authority quickly. I find these tools easy to install and compatible with Chrome web browser.
The last step I did was to reach out to the website owners or bloggers. Some websites have a page dedicated to “free submissions” that I used to pitch my material. If they don’t have one, I send an email encouraging them to use my content.
When reaching out to other content creators, the tricky part is whether they accept links and if yes, would they link to your page? They might be interested and be in contact with you if you present them with valuable content.
3. Skyscraper Technique
In the long run, creating short, 500-word content generally isn’t going to be valuable. Having a lot of materials with no quality that receives very little traffic will only send the wrong signals to Google.
So, I tried the Skyscraper Technique. This technique involves looking at your target audience's likes by checking out the most popular competitor or niche articles and creating something even better.
It took me a long time to create content since I’m targeting about 3000-5000 words per piece. But I end up with chockfull of information – and my target readers love it. I even used tables to present key information in a visually appealing manner.
As a result, I end up on top of the search results for the keywords I’m targeting.
Ryan Robinson, a content marketing consultant, used this strategy to drive 72,000+ Pageviews.
Here’s how to use the skyscraper technique to earn massive traffic:
We research trends and issues related to our niche and can be valuable to the content we’re producing. For this step, you can use free tools such as Google Alerts and BuzzSumo.
b. Create content with a twist
Once we find an existing material with the same niche, we offer something better. Robinson found that many freelancers are interested in finding out how much they should be charging -- and a calculator tool has become massively popular.
He made an infographic on calculating freelancer hourly rates to capitalize on that. In addition, he made references to useful tools and services
c. Reach out to people
Lastly, we publish our work and reach out to other brands or blogs willing to share or republish our content.
These three steps drove our pages to the top of the search results. Robinson ranked high for the keyword “freelance hourly rate,” making his content outrank other pages with the same topic. In just a matter of weeks, his page reached 72,000+ views, and he gained 3,600 new email subscribers.
4. Content Re-launch
Brian Dean, an SEO expert and creator of the Skyscraper Technique, boosted his organic traffic by a ridiculous 260.7 percent without having to publish new content. Plus, it all happened in just two weeks. What did he do?
He relaunched content.
Re-launching your improved content will boost your views from other mediums or social channels without paying for search traffic. People who didn’t see your post will now have the opportunity to read it.
It will also send a quality signal to Google. In return, your website will gain more traffic and rank higher on the results page.
The first step to successfully re-launch content is to determine your underperforming content. Then, improve and update the information or statistics of that material. Lastly, republish your post. That’s it!
5. Blogger Outreach
According to Michael Pozdenev, the best strategy to reach the target audience and get dozens of backlinks and thousands of shares is to become amicable with other content creators or bloggers. Establishing relationships with content creators, clients, and acquaintances will give you more people who can see and share your content.
If you think about it, how can you promote your content and become a credible source if you can only see your work?
Getting more people in your circle of friends will help you have successful content marketing. Learn some important SEO tips, and incorporate them into your materials to increase your visibility online. Eventually, more people will see your posts.
Reaching out to and befriending visitors who take the time to give feedback on your page will also improve your online status. Their comments, likes, and subscriptions will become social proof for new customers or readers.
So you would want to reach out to people through forums, email, or social accounts. It’s crucial that you also join programs or events related to your niche to get acquainted with other influencers in your industry.
